Ford’s acclaimed EcoBoost engine technology has picked up a top honour at the annual Car Dealer Power awards. The three-strong range of economical petrol powerplants was voted “Manufacturer Initiative of the Year” by Car Dealer readers.
Ford’s EcoBoost range includes the 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit, as well as 1.6- and 2.0-litre four-cylinder versions. It is the second award this month for the smallest of the trio after the 1.0 litre was singled out as “International Engine of the Year” for the second year in a row.
This year’s Car Dealer Power awards were the biggest to date, with more than 2,500 entries from retailers. James Batchelor, editor of Car Dealer, said: “Ford has produced an engine range that has found universal praise for its fuel-sipping habits and low CO2 emissions, yet delivers the power and refinement of much larger petrol engines. Dealers have told us the cars fitted with these innovative powerplants are proving to be all the rage in their showrooms, helping to win new customers.”
Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said the award reflected votes from dealers representing every major automotive brand, not just Ford. “EcoBoost has proved once again that it is a breakthrough technology, resonating with drivers who are looking to downsize. They want equal power and performance from a smaller engine, which Ford EcoBoost engines deliver.”
EcoBoost engines are in almost every Ford passenger car, from the Fiesta, Focus and B-MAX to the Mondeo, C-MAX, Kuga, S-MAX and Galaxy. In the Fiesta and B-MAX small cars, the 1.0 litre produces up to 125PS.
Earlier this month Ford announced plans to double production of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine at its plant in Cologne, Germany, to meet demand.
