THE INTERCONTINENTAL ADVERTISING CUP 2008

1.376 finalists, 173 nominees, 34 Cups and one Grand Cup

The CUP’s 2008 Jury* working from November 4-7 in Bled, Slovenia, has had a hard job of going through 1.376 entries from qualifying events:
ADFEST (449),
FIAP (497),
ADC*E (85) and
Golden Drum (345).  

After 4 days of judging, the nominees for The CUP 2008 are finally known. The jury gave 173 nominations in 38 categories. The CUPs were not awarded in 5 categories: 6 – Best of Luxury goods, 8 – Other vehicles and accessories, 10 – Travel and tourism, 13 – Household and business appliances, furnishing and accessories, and L – Best integration of a global idea into a local culture.

65 nominees, 11 Cups for ADFEST

The highest number of nominees comes from ADFEST – they got 65 prestigious titles CUP NOMINEE that will be engraved on the stainless steel cups.
Out of these no less than 11 winners of the CUP 2008 are from Asia Pacific:
Dentsu INC Tokyo got 3 Cups in the categories: Best of food, Best of corporate, Best universal idea created in local market.

Projector INC Tokyo got 3 Cups in the categories: Best of fashion and cosmetics, Best of interactive, Best use of technology.

BBDO Bangkok,
JWT India,
Hakuhodo Kettle/Hakuhodo and
Leo Burnett Advertising Kuala Lumpur got 1 Cup.

Art Directors Club of Europe and Golden Drum do not have only 5 Cups together
ADC*E has 40 nominees and won 13 Cups, five of them together with Golden Drum. It is important to add that some works from these two festivals come as finalists from both festivals but were nominated only once and got, of course, one Cup.

The winners of The Cup are:
Nordpol+Hamburg Germany in Best of public and private services, Best of film, Most insightful idea, Best of crafting for agency,
180Amsterdam /180 TBWA has 2 Cups in Best of sports and in Best campaigns categories,
Advico Young & Rubicam Switzerland in Best of outdoor,
Atelier Markgraph Germany won the Cup in Best of installation.

ADC*E and Golden Drum together won 5 cups:
Interone/ BBDO Comlab Germany for Best of cars and Best of one2one,
Scholz & Friends Interactive Hamburg for Best of entertainment, recreation and leisure,
Walker Zürich for Best of publications, and
Neue Digitale GmbH Berlin for Best design.

Golden Drum got 39 nominations and won 9 Cups, five of them together with ADC*E. Another four cups went to:
Euro RSCG Prague for Best of household products and maintenance and for Best of radio,
McCann Erickson Israel for Best of press and to
Change Integrated Poland for Best of health and personal care.

The Grand Cup goes to FIAP

FIAP got 29 nominations for their finalists and won 6 Cups. Three cups go to:
Vitruvio Leo Burnett Madrid and Foundation Prodis for the film Let Us Do It – for Best of social engagements, for Best strategy and the third one was Special jury’s award for the film Let Us Do It;
DDB Brasil in The Best of financial category;
JWT Spain for Best of beverages and for Best of crafting for production company for La Clave Reserva for Cava Freixenet Carta Nevada.

The same film La Clave Reserva – The Key to Reserva won also The Grand Cup, Best of all Cups in the year 2008.

La Clave Reserva is a complex web of teasers, (fake or real?) celebrity endorsements and top-notch production value in a Martin Scorsese attempt to shoot a newly found screenplay by Alfred Hitchock.

A Hitchcock story is interrupted constantly by Scorsese’s narrative and – at the climax of the video – by the Freixenet brand which appears at its most prestigious and … hey, see and enjoy it for yourself – both the campaign and the bubbly! And see the jury members’ videos discussing it!
