Chevrolet Cruze is AUTOBEST 2010

– Leading automotive journalists’ jury honors Chevrolet’s new compact sedan
– Jury praises "excellent value for money"

Zurich.  The Chevrolet Cruze, on the European market since the spring, has been elected "AUTOBEST 2010" by a jury of leading auto writers in Central and Eastern Europe. The journalists from 15 countries placed the Cruze in first place in their "best buy" competition ahead of the Hyundai i20, Skoda Yeti and Volkswagen Polo.

The jury members give points on a total of 13 criteria. These include design and technical characteristics like handling, consumption, environmental impact and spaciousness as well as a number of points considered particularly relevant in the growth markets of Central and Eastern Europe: for example, a broad distribution network and the easy availability of parts and accessories.

AUTOBEST President, Ilja Seliktar, said on behalf of the jury, "The Cruze is the best-buy car in the region," adding that Chevrolet’s compact sedan was the "overall winner with excellent value for money."

Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe, said, "Across Europe, sales of the new Cruze have out-stripped our most optimistic forecasts. The car is everything we expect from a Chevrolet in terms of value: it combines great looks with high standards of safety and reliability – all at very fair prices."

Earlier this month, Euro NCAP announced a 5-star safety rating for the new Chevrolet Cruze. According to EuroNCAP, the Cruze scored 79 points out of 100, making it one of the safest models in the passenger car class. The Cruze achieved 96 percent in adult occupant protection, making it the runner-up this year and beating all tested premium brands.

The Cruze received a maximum 16 points in the frontal offset collision test and a maximum 8 points in the side impact crash test against a moving deformable barrier. The Cruze is the first passenger car to receive maximum scores in both tests since EuroNCAP began providing crash test ratings in 1997.
