The return of raging bulls

Next week the world’s fastest one-make series, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, will return to the race track after a successful inaugural season in 2009. A host of roaring Super Trofeos will charge around the Hockenheimring, Germany, at the season-opener on 24-25 April 2010, supporting Europe’s most popular touring car series, DTM.

With competition close last year, professional and ‘gentlemen’ drivers will once again battle for position behind-the-wheel of Super Trofeo race cars, lightweight versions of the Gallardo LP 560-4. Teams already confirmed for the coming season include Reiter Engineering, which secured second place in the 2009 Teams’ Championship, while new Swiss outfit Black Bull Racing will make its Super Trofeo debut in Hockenheim. 2009 Pro-Am Drivers’ Champion Claudio Rossetto will also compete, having secured seven race victories for team Petri Corse last year.

“I had a fantastic 2009 season,” said Rossetto. “The competition was tough but we persevered and managed to fend off our closest rivals to take the Pro-Am Driver, Pro Driver and Team titles. Racing in a Lamborghini is a fantastic experience, and having had such an amazing time last year, we will come back even more confident and motivated for 2010.” “The second Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo season is highly anticipated,” said Lamborghini’s Director of Brand and Design, Manfred Fitzgerald. “We’re excited to see new teams join the Super Trofeo family for 2010, while competitors from last season will return to defend their honours. The on-track battles were extremely close in 2009, and we’re set for another thrilling season ahead.”

Marc A. Hayek, President and CEO of Blancpain, the series’ title sponsor, commented: “This second season looks eventful and I’m really looking forward to it, starting with the first races in Hockenheim, where the circuit is extremely technical and very fast. I am confident about the results, which we’ll be trying to improve still further this year.”

The 2010 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo season will debut in April featuring the Lamborghini Super Trofeo: a lightweight version of the Gallardo LP 560-4. The Super Trofeo has a reworked chassis and a power output of 419 kW (570 hp) from its V10, ‘Iniezione Diretta Stratificata’ engine. The race car features Lamborghini’s permanent four-wheel drive, making the Super Trofeo the only one-make, allwheel- drive motorsport series.

Lamborghini will again partner with luxury Swiss watchmaker Blancpain, who is the series’ title sponsor, creating a perfect partnership between two prestigious and highly-innovative brands. Its President and CEO, Marc A. Hayek, will get behind-thewheel of a Super Trofeo following his successful 2009 race season, where he secured four race victories and finished second in the Pro-Am drivers’ classification.

Pirelli, one of the world’s largest tyre manufacturers and sole OEM supplier to Automobili Lamborghini, partners the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series. Pirelli, who have a successful motorsport heritage across rally, sports cars and Formula One, will be for the second season a strategic partner to the series. With a history built on high performance tyres, Pirelli is a world leader in both original equipment and the aftermarket, with 24 factories in 12 countries around the world.
