What’s in the stars?

The 15th Golden Drum and Media Meeting will take place from the 5th to the 10th of October 2008 in the Bernardin Hotel complex. The starry skies of Portorož will be the celestial stage for the grand game of the 2008 Golden Drum. Celestial games
The Golden Drum is presenting itself with a new »Celestial game« look, conceived and designed by Vera Stanković (Creative Director), Andrej Troha (Art Director), Špela Drašlar (Art Director) and Jure Požun (Copywriter) from the Slovenian advertising agency Mayer McCann.

Creative Academy
The Creative Academy will be slightly different this year. Four large advertising networks: McCann WorldGroup, Publicis, Grey Group and TBWA will present their thoughts and insights into key topics on the Golden Drum stage.

Eros in advertising
The first group up will be McCann Worldgroup with the topic »Eros in advertising«.
Advertising is more than just the transmission of messages, offers and promises … It is, at least in its nobler form, akin to shooting with Cupid’s bow and arrows, awakening desire, lust, belonging, passion. Branding is basically the design of an erotic relationship to a name, brand, image, personality … It is also more than just a problem-solution situation. It is eros transcending ratio. A magnetism that connects and satisfies! And not least, the advertising profession itself holds a specific eros, which attracts the young, the curious, the ambitious and the creative.
The question we wish to pose ourselves at the Golden Drum Creative Academy is: what is happening to the eros of advertising in this era of direct and digital communication. Is ratio not gaining the upper hand, and can eros without mass communication, forced to rely on eyeball to eyeball contact, even capable of developing it’s otherwise vast power?

The Client is King. The goddess Victory gets her wings.
Behind every advertising star stands a client. Every victory requires a competent and ambitious brief. Without a client’s wind in its sails, not even the most inspired creativity can win. This year the Golden Drum inaugurates the Golden Winged Nike award for the client of the best advertisement in the category regardless of media. Eighteen new awards for each of the categories in four media!

Advertising is a producers’ market
One-and-a-half thousand participants from more than 30 countries, over 400 advertising agencies, close to 3,000 advertising works in competition, 600 TV spots … the flower of the advertising industry representing a four hundred million strong market that stretches from Portorož to Vladivostok and from Helsinki to Tel Aviv gathers for a week at the Bernardin campus for the Golden Drum. Nowhere else will you find so many clients for production services in one place; nowhere else will they take so much time for you.
The Golden Drum Pro Expo Club, where ideas meet their realization!

The president of the head jury is Bob Moore from Publicis US
Bob Moore started in his parents’ agency, the Cole & Weber company, continued in Wieden + Kennedy and Fallon, and in 2002 became first the executive, then the head Creative Director of the Publicis US agency with offices in New York and Seattle.
Bob’s work has thus far been awarded five golden and one silver Cannes Lions, three D&AD Silver Pencils, one Best of Show at the Show, the Radio Mercury Grand Award, and the Kellys Clio and CA. In his free time Bob plays bass guitar, sings in a Hawaiian folk group and swims. He is married to Susan, who teaches French, and has two daughters, Elliot Lyn and Grace Estelle.
