Tools to Analyze your Website

One of the most important terms in website development in the past several years is SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is one of the most important concepts in web hosting today.  Website developers and administrators can no longer get by on their knowledge of HTML and a photo editing tool like Photoshop or GIMP alone.  They must also build their website in a way that generates traffic through the smart use of metadata.  This metadata is not data that is directly read by users on your website, but it is data like keywords that is picked up by search engines and other web indexing crawler programs that categorize your website and place it in a web search database.  Knowing what your potential users will be using for search terms in Google that will lead them to your site and interest them enough in your product to generate a sale is extremely useful for generating revenue.

For instance, if you want to get people to come to your site who are searching for “affordable Persian rugs” then you make sure that the term is placed in strategic places in your sites code that will make it search engine friendly.

SEO is not only about search terms being peppered through your web site, it is also about making your site easy to navigate and easy for search engines and web crawlers to parse and understand.  The use of easy to read menus, site maps, tagged images, and shopping carts all contribute to your sites SEO capability.  Ultimately, a focus on search engine optimization is about getting to the number one search result when your potential customer types in your chosen search term “affordable Persian rugs.”

SEO is not easy, though, and it can take some trial and error.  The good news is that there are several tools available online to help you out with this.  Here are 9 web tools that we found that will help you optimize your web site for maximum search engine optimization.

WooRank

This is a great tool for analyzing your website.  You just type in your website in the text box (it looks like a search engine) and then it analyzes your site and gives you an SEO rating.  There are also extensions available for Firefox and Chrome that make this even more convenient.

Pear Analytics

This is another free SEO analysis tool that works like a search engine text box.  The recommendations are nice and simple for the beginning web administrator.

Going Up!

This tool is another site analyzer that looks at things like our site popularity, number of links, site structure, and other factors to help your site make it to the top of the search list.

AboutUS.org

AboutUs.org is a directory of websites that is made for SEO promotion.  They have several offerings available to help you optimize your site, but best of all, they have a nice analysis tool that is free of use and very helpful in doing initial SEO analysis of your site.

Alexa

Alexa is another free SEO search tool that analyzes your links, popularity, current page ranks, etc.

Scrub the Web

Scrub the Web is a free meta tag analyzer tool that will search your site specifically for meta tags and give you immediate feedback on your meta tag usage.  Are you using the right meta tags?  Are there places where you could be using more meta tags to help your site? This free tool will help you find out.

Website Grader

This tool will give your site a grade, and also provides a service to improve that grade for thirty days free of charge.

Visible.net

This is another free tool that analyzes your titles, images, links, etc.

Website-seo-tools.com

This is a fairly in depth offline SEO tool that doesn’t focus on page rank or social network rankings, but just analyzes your site purely on its structure and content alone.  This can be very useful in conjunction with some of the other web rank oriented tools.
