General About The Golden Drum

Golden Drum is the number one advertisement event of the New Europe; it belongs to two biggest advertisement events in Europe.

If advertisement is perhaps the most successful accelerator of economic movements, then the mission of the Golden Drum is the growth of the creative potential of economy in the less privileged environments, too. Golden Drum covers a 400-million market from Portoroz to Vladivostok, and from Helsinki to Tel Aviv. It is the only East-European festival that is considered in Gunn Report, the white book of advertisement that collects points of the best ads, advertisers, and agencies authoring them.

The 17th Golden Drum will take place on 6-9 October 2010 in Portoroz/Bernardin. The introductory speaker will be Sir John Hegarty, the world-wide creative manager of agencies Bartle, Bogle, Hegarty; he wrote: »The future of advertising has been questioned. Egardless what these cynics say, our industry is about to enter a golden periods«. The central topic of the 2010 Golden Drum is hence RECONSTRUCTION. But its slogan remains: Severe competition, good school, lively party, and devil’s challenge.

The number of all entries in 2010 festival is 1.961. Among them 1.718 compete for the Golden Drum Awards, and 243 for the best Piran-Portoroz poster (26 finalist are known already – if you wish to see them, we will be glad to send them to you in a special presentation). In terms of media, the most entries are in the group of printed adds (363), followed by media campaigns (235), outdoor (234), TV ads (299) and interactive works (200). In the category design and art direction 182 works compete, in the group advertisement campaigns 120, PR area is covered by 89, and radio ads by 69 works.

Of course, evenings will host the traditional national parties: participants from 40 countries will enjoy themselves in the Hungarian, Macedonian, Austrian, and Turkish styles (Thursday, 7 October). The first evening (Wednesday, 6 October) will see the festival opening. There will be also two gala presentations of awards: on Thursday 7 October to recipients in category of the Golden Drum Open (global categories) and on Saturday 9 October to recipients of the Golden Drum New Europe (traditional advertisement groups). The main agencies award will be presented by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Danilo Türk.

DEVILISH CHALLENGE

There will be one live competition at the Golden Drum 2010 Studio Drum, film-related ex tempore, which will take place for the 7th time, already. The selected young directors have about 10 hours time to shot a one-minute movie, this time on the 35 mm Kodak film. There will be the same two actors as 7 years ago: Aljoša Kovacic and Aleksandra Balmazovic.

After 17 years of its working the Golden Drum decided to establish the Hall of Fame of the New Europe. A marble wall in GH Bernardin that hosts the advertisement community of the New Europe every year will be decorated with names of the especially emeritus ones to fight forgetting. Who are they? You will learn this on 7 October 2010 at 19.00

JOURNALISTS’ WORK AT GOLDEN DRUM FESTIVAL

Like every year, the Golden Drum will offer you a furnished press room from its beginning to its end. You will receive regular Press Releases, and a few hours ahead, information about winners. Every day there will a less formal meeting with the ‘re-constructer’ of the day. In the journalists’ room, we will reserve for you the most interesting speaker of the festival day. On Wednesday, 6 October, at 6 pm Sir John Hegarty will be it. On Saturday, 9 October, you are invited to enjoy the traditional breakfast with juries members.

Please, let me know, if you wish to meet, interview, photograph anybody in particular. Thus, we can do our best to organize your meeting.

WELCOME!
