Ford Increases Car Sales And Share In 2012

Market leader Ford boosted car sales and share in October and for the year to date, compared with the same periods in 2011, running ahead of the UK total car sales market.

Ford car sales in October were up by 12.3 per cent, compared with October 2011. According to the official figures released on November 6 from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT):
· Ford car sales and share up in October and for the year to date
· Ford Fiesta is the UK best seller in October and for the year to date
· Ford commercial vehicles in 47th consecutive year of market leadership

Figures released by the SMMT show that total car sales in October were up 12.1 per cent to 151,252 units, compared  with October 2011. For the year to date (end October) total UK car sales were 1,771,861 – up 5.0 per cent compared with 2011.

Ford car sales in October were 20,740, while for the year to date Ford registrations of 245,109 are up 5.2 per cent compared with the same period in 2011.

Ford Fiesta sales have increased year-over-year through 2012, going up from 84,506 to 96,805 for the year to date, compared with the same period in 2011, and the Fiesta’s car market share is up from 5.0 to 5.5 per cent. In October, Fiesta recorded 8,058 sales and a 5.4 per cent share.

Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain managing director, said: "Increasing UK sales has drawn extra production in from depressed European markets, so it is a credit to Ford’s outstanding product line-up and its dealer partners that Ford’s market lead has been strengthened during this period of intense rivalry for sales.

“Ford has continued to invest in new technologies and models, such as the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine in the Ford Focus, the new Focus ST and the B-MAX with its unique unimpeded access for front and rear passengers. In its first full month of sales, the Ford B-MAX secured a very promising 0.5 per cent of the market."

Ford’s CV market leadership remains unchallenged with a 24.0 per cent of the total CV market in October and a 22.3 per cent share for the year to date. Ford medium commercials hold 31.6 per cent of the CV market for the year to date and in October accounted for 32.7 per cent of the total CV market.
