7 Website Marketing Tips for Small Business

Correct marketing techniques could spell the difference between a business’s success and failure. Here are seven tips to ensure that your business is getting the best out of the internet.

Content: Content is king

Search engines feed on content. The more pages your website has, the better off it will be. The content has to be relevant to the product or service offered, as well as legible and intelligible. Sloppy language is unprofessional and does not build faith in a business; and complicated language (too much jargon) can be misunderstood, so keep it simple and straightforward. Always ask yourself: Is the information informative, interesting and unique in some way?

Frequently update content: Keep it fresh!

Search engines track any movement or change to a website, so adding new content regularly will help your website rank well in search engine result pages. Keeping a blog attached to your site is an easy way to do this.

Links

Links must be relevant. Avoid having a link specific page. Rather spread links throughout content pages, where the pertinent topics on the page determine the nature of the pages linked to.

Layout

There’s nothing more frustrating to a web-surfer than trying to navigate a website that is poorly structured, making finding what you’re looking for difficult. Don’t make the homepage too busy and confusing, keep adverts to a minimum and make sure the header tabs are bold and clearly marked under your business name or logo.

Accessibility

A website should be accessible to everyone. Don’t overload the webpages with too many images or video content as it makes them slow to load. Some people are not equipped with high-tech computers and might tire of waiting for a page to load and instead click on another website that is easier to load.

URL

Choose your URL wisely. Obviously, your URL needs to be as relevant as possible to the product or service you are offering. Do some keyword research to see what the most searched terms are? Naturally, the more sought after the term is, the less chance there is of the URL being available. URLs containing very general terms such as computersforsale.com will most likely not be available, so if you are forced to choose a term that is so far removed from the service or product you’re offering, then you might want to purchase a URL that contains more relevant terms and keywords.

Style

Avoid inverse writing. For example, white writing with a black background or vice versa. This is hard to read. Also avoid writing solely in capital letters as scanning for word shapes becomes impossible.

Follow these tips and watch traffic to your site increase!
